Also sowas wie geöffnete engine cowlings etc.

Hello Betasingh,

It is always nice to see that this forum is international and having friends in civilian aircraft .
By coincident I have kicked off my "B747-8F Cargolux with gear down" - project this weekend and I try to go for a building report as well (but then in german).
So after all, it´s quite similar to the LH kit, but has less windows ;).
However, please don´t get me wrong: the engine parts are small and flimsy, that require a certain degree of experience.
There is a reason, why this kit has the highest skill level. So the assembly is demanding and might cause a risk of beeing overwhelmed by frustation for a newcomer.
Please indicate that state and probably it is good invested money to gather some experience for this plastic kit topic by assemble a less demanding kit, A320 or B737 for example,
before you start with you presented project.
But with Mechanic and me ready for your questions, we hopefully should keep the show going :D.
If no other joins in as well...

Cheers, MoonLoon

Thank you very much for the advice
I have seen the model and personally, without landing gear, there weren't too many steps, so I was hoping to just make the one model. The main reason is that there are plenty of resources on the internet that can help me, as well as some video tutorials on YouTube, and although it will be quite difficult, I am quite patient and I really want to see what I can do with the model, even if it isn't perfect. And with kind people on this forum like you two, I will surely come to you guys for advice.

Let me know, if you want that in English. :D

I have practiced making much smaller Airfix war planes before, so I have some experience in making these, but when it comes to Revell, I am a beginner. I am pretty familiar with making the fuselage of the plane, as I have Airfix experience and I have seen YouTube videos. Nevertheless, I have found and bought an old Revell fighter plane just for some practice. Thank you for your advice. One other thing. As you guys on this forum are experienced, and I have a couple of questions that I want to be answered, as this is the first big plane I am building, I would be grateful if any of you could answer any of these questions for me.

1) Should I build the model, then paint, then add the decals? If not so, which order should I do it in?
2) Do I need to add multiple coats of paint for both enamel and acrylic, or can I just add one? If I should add more than one coat, how many coats do you guys think I should add?

3) Saying it has 172 pieces, and I only need to paint the undercarriage, tail, fuselage, wings and engines, how long (approximately) will the building take?
4) How long will Revell Contacta Liquid Glue take to dry?
5) Lastly, how long should I wait for the decals to set into the model before wiping of the excess solution.

If anyone can answer any of these questions, I will be immensely grateful. Once again, I thank you all profusely.

Hello Betasingh!

The very first thing about making models is time doesn´t matter! In order to get well result I stop working on it since have lost enthusiasm  :D  . Let´s start with small steps. At least it depends on  how long the clue as well as the coating needs to dry out.

Today I started the model kit. I think the question about the first step is somewhat special.
1. cleaning -> primer -> withe coat but finish it will be the last step bevor decal!-> cockpit, windows, wheelwell, apu exhaust -> bonding of fuselage shells...
2. yes you will need more than one layer of  coat and it´s considered to use a paint system from one supplier.
3. revell clue is pretty fast but it depends also on temperature and humidity. I guess you should take a minimum of 30 min into account.
4. Mostly I apply the solvent after I have set the decals into the model.
4.1 I cut the right decal out of the sheet
4.2 put it in warm water for appr. 10 min until its possible to slide it on the sheet.
4.3 carefully slide the decal on to the surface
4.4 slide it on its  final position and carefully wipe off the remaining water
4.5 apply plenty of decal softer on the right decal to get best result.

For more question, have a look to the building blog
kind regards

Thanks for the reply. I have two questions
1) Can you paint black dots onto the transparent window part recesses, before glueing, as it will make the windows look black without having to use the decals, which I've seen to be difficult to use.
2) Which parts of the two fuselages are you meant to glue for them to stick together. Like when glueing the two fuselages together, where should the glue be applied?
Again, thank you very much for all your help, I cannot put into words how kind you are.

Hello all, I am more or less ready to get started on my Revell plane, just need to have a few things delivered then I'm ready. I will start construction of the plane in the Easter Holidays, where schools and stuff aren't open. This is from the 1st of April to the 14th of April. Do you guys here in the Revell Community think that 2 weeks will be enough time to construct this model plane or not? And should I do a 'Building In Progress Report' even if it will never be as good as you guys?

Let me hear your opinions,
BetaSingh

BetaSingh
